Support for SEND

Supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Haven Nursery School is a fully inclusive nursery where every child is welcomed and valued. We strongly believe that every child is entitled to receive high quality education and care, enabling him or her to thrive, irrespective of need, prior attainment, background or circumstance. We continually seek to adapt and improve our provision to meet the individual needs of all of our children in all areas of their development.

We recognise that every adult has a role to play in SEND provision and improving outcomes for all our children. Effective leadership of SEND provision is the responsibility of governors and senior leaders. Jodie Hope is our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) and this role is well supported by Lead Practitioners who have a significant leadership role for supporting children with SEND within their nursery areas. We also employ a full time speech and language therapist at Haven Nursery School to support children with an identified need.

We firmly believe that all children should have access to inclusive quality-first teaching delivered through a well-differentiated curriculum, rooted in effective play based early years pedagogy. We scrutinise what barriers to learning there might be for the child, and how these might be overcome through carefully planned environmental adaptations, teaching and learning strategies, and, or, targeted interventions. The individual needs of each child are at the heart of our provision for children with SEND, and as parents and carers your voice is listened to and valued in all decisions affecting your child.

Please get in touch if you would like to discuss your child's individual needs with us further.

For further information on our provision, please see our SEND Inforrmation Report and SEND Policy, accessed via the SEND tab or within our Policies page on the key information tab.
